ECAF Works To Encourge Voting

Make Your Mark!

ECAF worked on an educational public service campaign with the Elections Office and students at the University of West Florida.

ECAF President, Sabrina McLaughlin, spoke to a UWF advertising class about voting and the students put together the creative for the advertising campaign.

The Elections Office is providing $3,100 in funds to purchase ads, school banners, and other media to encourage people to vote, especially those in the 18 to 24-year-old demographic.

4th District AAF Puts Art Back In Florida Schools

Keep Art In Schools!

The Emerald Coast Advertising Federation proudly announces a new program to “Keep Art in Schools.”

This fall, members of the Emerald Coast Advertising Federation as well as the 4th District American Advertising Federation will undertake a major statewide public service initiative – Keep Art in Florida Schools.  The goal is to give 6,000 students around Florida a taste of art by using 4th District Artists and Creative Directors to teach simple elements of design and art.

Most elementary schools in Florida no longer have formal art instruction due to budget cuts and lack of time. Since art makes us more human and creates deeper long lasting benefits, the more than 2,000 members of the 4th District will lend their expertise to our schools by donating their time to put art back into our schools.  Each of the 23 local clubs will work with elementary schools in their communities to bring the schools art supplies, their talent, and the curriculum to tie it all together.

ECAF proudly accepts the honor of being the first club in the 4th District to complete the initiative with partnering school, Bluewater Bay Elementary School. With the hard work and dedication of Joy Todd and Susan Young, the Emerald Coast is “Keeping Art in Schools."

About the Keep Art In Schools Program

ECAF will be partnering with Bluewater Bay Elementary School to promote the 4th District AAF's Keep Art In Schools Program.

We can save the future DaVincis and Rodins just by lendng our schools a helping hand and doing what we do best...show our creative! Most elementary schools in Florida have no formal art instruction due to cuts in budgets and lack of time. Since art makes us human and creates deeper long lasting benefits, it is important that we lend our experts to our schools. You may be surprised to find out that your attention to a 5th grade class may be the first real art experience for them. You will enjoy this public service as much as the children you teach.

This is a tested project. Lime Street Elementary School in Lakeland beta-tested this idea with great success. The students, the teachers, and the administration highly approved of the project after their experience. It is easy and it works. The reward of thanks from the students and lots of smiles make the effort worthwile. Now it is your turn! Let's cover Florida with our 4th District talents. The rewards for us will be multiplied from the students to recognition from the communities we serve.

Mission:
To give 6,000 students around Florida a taste of art by using 4th District Artists and Creative Directors to teach simple elements of design and art. This project should motivate other community organizations and agencies to continue 4th District AAF's initiative.

Local Club Work – Each local club will be responsible for:

1. Finding a local elementary school willing to participate. Even though this project is geared for 3rd through 5th graders, it could easily be expanded to 6th grade.

Suggestion: It was easier to find a participating school by using parent or grandparent to introduce the project to the principal or assistant principal of individual schools. Each local AdFed certainly has contacts to initiate this process. Sometimes, it is actually easier to start with the teacher and back up the project to the administration. If the teacher signs on, then the school is likely to endorse the project. You will be able to show a sample of the final project to the school.

2. Teaching at least TWO art projects.

Project 1 – Create a 5 ft by 5 ft art project with the Keep Art in Schools logo. Each child will create a piece of the logo on a square 6 inch tile. This project will be pieced together by the local club and displayed and donated to the school.

Project 2 – Each child will follow the curriculum to produce more tiles. This time the kids won't have the beneefit of seeing the project put together right away. It will be part of a giant billboard the 4th District will take to Tallahassee next March for the Winer Conference/Legislative Fly-in. Each piece will have the child's name on the back and a message encouraging the Senate to Keep Art in Schools. Messages could also be more dramatic. For example, "My name is Tiara and this is my first art class."
